It is a well-known fact that the freight cost per ton km is lowest in larger vessels. However there are limitations of draft and berthing facilities for larger vessels in most ports. This necessitates operating smaller vessels to be operated on such routes. |

Victor Port aims to be a port of choice for lightening or topping up such large vessels in the stream. The port jetty will be used to empty these lightening barges. Given its excellent connectivity to the state highway, it will provide an excellent import point for such cargoes. In later years subject to volumes of cargo a transhipper may be placed wherein such deep draft vessel can be completely emptied and the mother vessel freed up quickly while gradually emptying the transhipper through barges. The barges shall be able to visit Victor Port at all tide levels and thus carry out 24 x 7 operations. |
